I use paper textures, and use multiply in the layer styles. and then mess with doubling the layers and messing with opacity.
its all about messing with things... Use texture but only to accent and it will give depth to things.
best place to start is to find textures that you like and save them, I have a big collection of them that I use. Also color palette has a lot to do with what texture you use.
I always start with no texture and then add it at the end so I'm happy with the piece, but want to give it that polish. Its all about the details!
